Clean Getaways: 10 Things to Do Before You Travel
Even though you may not depart for months, there’s still plenty to do before your trip. Here’s our ten-point plan for a smooth transition into travel mode.
Congratulations! We are thrilled that you’ve decided to move forward with your Kensington Tour! While we the experts are here for you to help you plan your trip from start to finish, there are many things you’ll need to do as a traveler before you depart. The more you tackle in advance, the less stress you’ll have when it comes time to getting on the plane to your chosen destination.
1. Book Your Flights
If you’d like us to take care of your flights, you can easily contact your travel consultant who will put you in touch with one of our air experts. Our air team is here to assist you with booking flights and will be able to help you with ticketing, finding the best option for you, and of course any troubleshooting along the way. If you choose to book your flights on your own, be sure to consult with your destination expert so that they line up with your scheduled itinerary.
2. Update Your Booking Website
Your Booking Website will be your hub for everything you’ll need for your trip. The sooner your consultant has your full travel details, the better they can streamline your travel plans and ensure that everything is booked accurately and efficiently for you. Be sure to include your full flight details and passport information, and both your emergency contact numbers at home, as well as a number to contact you on while you’re on your trip.
3. Purchase Insurance
Whether you are purchasing insurance through Kensington Tours or making arrangements with another provider, we strongly recommend buying insurance. There are different levels of coverage to keep you covered for all of life’s unannounced surprises, and purchasing insurance can ensure that your investment in your trip is protected from any unforeseeable events.
4. Make a Packing List
A packing list will help you figure out what you need for your trip, what you’re missing, and will help keep you organized before your departure. Each destination requires a different set of items, but take a look at our Packing Tips from Our Destination Experts to help get you started.
5. Review and Print Your Itinerary
Booking a trip is an exciting time, and you don’t want any details overlooked! Be sure to carefully read through your itinerary to make sure you understand everything and ask your consultant if you have any questions. Our itineraries are entirely custom, and we want them to be ideally suited to your wish-list, so now is the time to make sure that happens! About a week before your trip, your destination expert will send you your final documents with day-by-day scheduling, so be sure to print this off and keep it with you on your journey!
6. Change Your Currency
Though many international destinations accept credit cards, you’ll want to have a little bit of foreign currency on you for the little things, like tipping your drivers and guides and grabbing a quick bite to eat here and there. Changing your money well ahead of time is just one less thing for you to do when it’s time to pack your bags.
7. Choose a Phone Plan
If you need to be accessible while on vacation, speak to your phone provider as they may have a cost-effective plan to keep you connected while you’re away. If you have an unlocked smartphone, you may wish to purchase a SIM card once to reach your destination. Or, you could nix the phone plans altogether and stick with the hotel or cafe Wi-Fi while you’re on vacation.
8. Make a Plan of Action
Now it’s time to put that packing list and your organizational skills to the test. Purchase anything you need for your trip well in advance. Find that loving relative who will volunteer to watch the dog. Tie up any loose ends at work, and be sure to put on your out-of-office message before you leave!
9. Use the Kensington Tours Hashtags
If you’re social media savvy, be sure to follow and tag us on Instagram and Twitter (@kensingtontours) us or use our hashtags (#kensingtontours #ktours) when you post your vacation photos for a chance to be featured on our social media accounts. We love when our clients share their unforgettable experiences with us!
10. Sit Back and Relax
Once you’ve crossed your “T”s and dotted your “I”s, it’s your chance to sit back, relax, and let us take care of you. As your flight arrives at your destination, you should feel worry-free and excited about what is to come! Your driver will meet you at the airport with a Kensington Tours sign bearing your name, ready to take you to your first destination.
Remember, here at Kensington, “We create the experience that changes the life,” and now it’s your turn to experience it too.
