Where To Spend New Year’s Eve This Year

Under-the-radar travel destinations you can still book for holiday celebrations.

Holiday travel is top of mind as the final days of summer approach. It should come as no surprise that the end of December and beginning of January is peak travel season worldwide with hotels in many destinations booking up before the end of August.

There are, however, a handful of under-the-radar places you can still book throughout the fall for your holiday getaway.

We’ve tracked down the top five places to spend New Year’s Eve where you can sidestep the crowds and still enjoy the warm weather and relaxation you crave as winter creeps in north of the equator.

Colombia
With fabulous food, fascinating architecture and an increasing number of luxury hotels, Colombia is attracting the attention of intrepid travelers worldwide. Opt for a privately-guided tour of Colombia with stops in Bogota, Medellin and Cartegena and you’ll have the opportunity to ring in the new year taking in street art, salsa clubs, coffee plantations and recovering from the festivities in the Caribbean paradise of the Rosario Islands.

United Arab Emirates
For balmy weather, luxurious accommodations and world-class shopping, few New Year’s Eve destinations compare to the Emirates. Splash out with an end of year vacation spent touring Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Beyond the Burj Khalifa you’ll experiences dinner cruises in Dubai’s picturesque harbor, exhilarating desert safaris, and shopping excursions through the countries treasure-filled souks.

Egypt
With colossal Pyramids, the Great Sphinx and Valley of the Kings’ tombs, Egypt is a bucket list destination for many that’s typically still has plenty of availability throughout the fall for Christmas bookings. Celebrate the new year on an Egypt tour cruising down the Nile or taking part in a sunset camel trek across breathtaking dunes.

Thailand
Venture to southeast Asia for a holiday vacation filled with delectable cuisine, warm breezes and once-in-a-lifetime sightseeing experiences. A tour of Thailand and Cambodia could include private tours of Bangkok’s floating markets and temples, a visit to the world’s first elephant hospital in Chiang Mai and the opportunity to take in beautiful Angkor Wat. If serenity is what you crave going into the new year, this is your spot.

Peru
You may be surprised to see the home of Machu Picchu on a list of under-the-radar destinations, but bookings in this country over the holiday period tend to lag behind more popular beach destinations in Central America. Explore the Sacred Valley and former capital of the Inca empire before wrapping up your Peru tour with champagne toasts on the country’s sun-splashed Pacific coast.
