Where to Travel in February

It may still seem like ages away but if you’re hoping to escape the winter blues next February, now is the time to start booking your trip. From the secret waterfalls and verdant rainforests of Costa Rica and colorful parades of Carnival in Brazil to the sunny beaches and animal-packed parks of South Africa, February is the perfect time of year to explore some of the world’s sunnier destinations. Sit back, relax, and read on for some of our favorite places to enjoy a winter vacation.

If romance is what you’re after, check out our post on romantic destinations for Valentine’s Day.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Latin America’s most exhilarating event of the year, Rio’s Carnival celebrations are unlike anything you’ve seen before – the whole city is on holiday! Celebrations on the streets and Carnival balls at clubs and discos are there waiting for you. For a truly unique experience, consider taking part in the Carnival Parade during your tour of Brazil! No rehearsals or experience required. Simply register beforehand and you’re on your way.

Venice, Italy

From one Carnival celebration to another, Venice, too, sees colorful celebrations in the month of February. Carefully painted Venetian masks and costumes come out in full force during countless balls, cruises, and parties, culminating in the Mascheranda Grand Ball – an evening of wonder and delight overlooking the Grand Canal. It doesn’t get more magical than this.

Costa Rica

The Christmas crowds are gone and the days are dry and sunny. If you’re looking for a vacation packed with sun and adventure, Costa Rica’s endless beaches and lush rainforests are the answer. For an extra-exhilarating Costa Rica experience, head to the Osa Peninsula and embark on a journey into what is known as one of the most biodiverse places on Earth!

Hong Kong, China

If you’ve never experienced Chinese New Year celebrations, Hong Kong is the place to do it. Explosive firework shows take over Victoria Harbour, acrobats fly through the air, and larger-than-life floats parade through the streets. Though many of the traditions take place at home with family, there is still plenty to see and do at local temples, the Night Parade, annual horse races, and more.

Cape Town, Africa

With warm sunny days and mild evenings and nights, February is a particularly pleasant time to visit South Africa’s coast. Enjoy local wines and craft beers in the many bars and restaurants in the vibrant entertainment district and enjoy unparalleled views of Table Mountain. Add on a couple days of game drives in Kruger National Park to round out your South Africa tour.
