Instagram-worthy Natural Wonders Around the World
From soaring mountains covered in fresh blankets of snow and desert landscapes you’d swear were from another galaxy, to underwater worlds teaming with colorful fish and trees so big it’d take five of you to wrap your arms around one, our planet is home to all kinds of natural wonders. In celebration of Earth Day we’re taking a look at some of the most exciting adventures found right in our own backyard. Whether you like to stroll lazily through gardens or you prefer more adrenaline pumping adventures, we’ve got something for every type of traveler.
Here’s our roundup of the most magical (and most instagram-worthy, naturally!) natural wonders around the globe.
Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia
If National Parks are more your scene, Plitvice Lakes is one that can’t be missed. With a chain of a whopping 16 terraced lakes, all connected by waterfalls connecting into a limestone canyon, this park is a must-see on any trip to Croatia.
Torres del Paine National Park, Chile
Another National Park that’s made it onto our list, Torres del Paine can be found in Chilean Patagonia. Spend a day hiking, biking, horseback riding, or kayaking and you’ll be rewarded with impressive views of the park’s soaring mountains, glistening glaciers, turquoise lakes, and maybe even a guanaco or two!
Avenue of the Baobabs, Madagascar
Known as the 8th Continent, the landscapes of Madagascar are unlike anywhere else in the world. Perhaps the most interesting feature is the Avenue of the Baobabs; a road lined with trees that look like they’ve spent their whole lives growing upside down.
Azores Islands, Portugal
The Azores Islands are a chain of volcanic islands found in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. With a myriad of sparkling crater lakes, black sand beaches, and a coast packed with more than 20 species of cetaceans, you’ll swear you stepped into a scene from Jurassic Park.
Found in the outskirts of Kyoto, stepping into Arashiyama is like stepping into another world. Watching sunlight peak through the seemingly endless stocks of bamboo is an unforgettable experience you won’t soon forget.
With a country so big and landscapes so varied, it’s no wonder China has made its way onto this list. Known as the “loveliest mountain of China,” Huangshan has drawn visitors for centuries. Towering granite peaks are often covered in a soft blanket of clouds, making for an even more mystical experience.
